My Friend Likes Krystal

Generally, I believe most jokes can be translated to many different formats. I’ve converted stand-up material into sketches. Used sketches to write blog posts. Et cetera. I’ve got one particular joke I’ve tried in my stand-up for a less-than-stellar response. Then I tried pitching it as a sketch and didn’t come up with anything better.

For what is worth, my pitch for this thing as a sketch was kind of garbage: “A restaurant that claims it’s the only reason you have friends.” The best ideas that came out of that were, “A sports team so bad, that’s how it advertises itself. A reverse Harlem Globetrotters.” and “A tourist attraction that is admittedly so bad, they only get by on people’s obligation to go there. Like Coney Island?” Those aren’t bad, but they aren’t really about the premise, which I guess I can’t adequately put into a few simple words. So, instead, here are a bunch of words about this photo:

Krystal Cup
This was taken from a cup at a Krystal (Burger) I went to a few years ago in Florida.

So, with emphasis:

YOU KNOW YOU’RE A KRYSTAL LOVER WHEN…you introduce your friend to Krystal and she wants to go every day.

This “testimonial” says that one person likes Krystal because her friend likes it. This makes no sense. This doesn’t explain AT ALL why the woman to the left is a “Krystal Lover.” We really need to be asking her friend why she likes it so much. Though, I think we’ll get the circular answer that she likes Krystal Burger because her friend brought her there.

I’m just having a hard time wrapping my head around, “I brought my friend here and she liked it, so now I like it?” It’s bothered me for eight years now and I’m glad I finally wrote about it.
