Stand-up: Three Years In

Untitled-1

I honestly cannot believe I’ve performed stand-up comedy for three years now, my first show being August 19, 2010. What to say to compare with my first year and second year

Well, I started thinking about this blog post a month ago (I’m an anxious person) and I wasn’t sure what to update people with but then as fate would have it (if I believed in fate), a couple of big things came along, both involving The Comedy Studio.

  1. July 24th, I had the best set I’ve ever had. It was a full audience, people were laughing at lines that I didn’t even remember were funny (hooray for people understanding cadence!) and I just rolled through the set without any problems. It also clocked in at almost exactly five minutes so I’m pumped to send that clip to festivals (the typical length for a festival video).
  2. I went to pick up some future dates and after a couple of years on the Wednesday/Sunday circuit, I got my first Saturday show! (Fridays and Saturdays being higher profile shows than other days of the week.)

While these are a couple of recent milestones, it’s generally been a good year for my stand-up. Near the end of last year I had a couple of moments where I was questioning what I was doing but those are in the past and I’m more resolved than ever to make something out of this. My goals continue include: getting more bookings and making it out to as many open mics as my body allows. I also really want to focus on generating new material, I’ve relied on too few jokes for too long now and I just need to increase my library.
